Biography

Alex and Tyler Mifflin are the hosts of The Water Brothers, a documentary television series airing on TVO in 2012 that explores the delicate state of our Blue Planet and the enormous challenges humans face to manage both freshwater and ocean resources sustainably. The driving force behind the project is to inspire people to become more involved in their relationship to water and to reconnect with the way we all view and consume water in our daily lives.

The idea to embark on The Water Brothers project first arose when Alex and Tyler started working together on IMAX projects at SK Films in 2009. Tyler had just graduated from UBC with a degree in film production and Alex from Dalhousie where he studied International Development and Environmental Science. In addition to hosting the show, Alex is also the researcher and co-writer of the series and Tyler is the director.

TEDxYouth 2011 will take place at the same time Alex and Tyler will have just completed filming their first season, an incredible journey that will have taken them to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Honduras, Mexico, Belize, Iceland, Greenland and all across Canada and the United States. Whether they are at the bottom of the ocean on a submarine looking at threatened deep sea corals, atop a glacier on a Greenland mountaintop or travelling down the mighty Mekong River the Brothers mix adventure with awareness in every episode and show that you can still have fun while learning about serious environmental challenges.
